Growth Milestones

Over the years since our founding in 1995, we have accomplished many growth steps towards becoming the company we are today. For a quick review of our history, see the milestones below.

1995

March – Synteract founded and incorporated. Hired initial staff of 3, focusing mainly on data management, biostatistics, and software services
April – Signed exclusive agreement with Gensia to license CANDA technology
May – Acquired first bank loan of $60,000 from First International Bank
May – Leased first office space in Encinitas, California
July – Signed first contract with biotechnology firm to deploy CANDA system for their NDA submission

1996

July – Began offering competitive package of medical and dental benefits to employees
September – Began offering 401(k) plan to employees
November – Implemented DataFax®, our first clinical database management system

1998

October – Opened branch office in Ambler, Pennsylvania, to provide additional support for data management and biostatistics services

1999

January – Established Clinical Operations department in order to provide full-service offerings along with core data management, biostatistics, and medical writing
March – Hired 50th employee
September – Awarded first full-service contract (monitoring, data management, biostatistics) with drug sponsor

2001

April – Implemented safety surveillance platform, EventNet (now Oracle AERS®), for clinical trials’ safety and post-marketing studies

2002

April – Developed and implemented SynCoder®, our proprietary medical terminology coding tool
August – Moved headquarters to a larger (85,000 sq ft) office building in Carlsbad, California

2003

February – Implemented Clintrial® database management system to provide flexibility in solutions for clinical trials data collection
September – Synteract makes the San Diego Business Journal’s listing of Top 100 Fastest Growing Companies in the San Diego greater metropolitan area for its first time
November – Signed Preferred Provider agreement with MonitorForHire.com to have advantageous access to their clinical personnel database
December – Developed first CDISC-based clinical database for drug sponsor

2004

July – Hired first M.D. on staff to assist with medical monitoring and review as well as regulatory affairs
September – Hired 100th employee
September – Synteract makes the San Diego Business Journal’s listing of Top 100 Fastest Growing Companies in the San Diego greater metropolitan area
October – Synteract honored as one of the Top 10 Women-owned Businesses in San Diego by San Diego Business Journal

2005

May – CEO Ellen Morgan honored as a finalist by Ernst & Young for Entrepreneur of the Year 2005 in greater San Diego metropolitan area
June – Implemented SynCapture®, our proprietary EDC system that allows for simultaneous web/fax/paper data collection in one clinical trial
September – Synteract makes the San Diego Business Journal’s listing of Top 100 Fastest Growing Companies in the San Diego greater metropolitan area
October – Synteract honored as one of the Top 10 Women-owned Businesses in San Diego by San Diego Business Journal
December – Implemented Cyclone (now Axway) eSubmissions® Gateway platform for electronic submissions of safety reports to the EMEA in Europe, and the FDA in the U.S.
December – Reported 9.5% voluntary employee turnover vs. industry average of 20%

2006

January – Hired 150th employee
June – Investment in Synteract made by Celerity Partners and other private firms to assist with global growth strategy
September – Synteract continues to stay on San Diego Business Journal’s listing of Top 100 Fastest Growing Companies in the San Diego greater metropolitan area
October – Synteract honored as one of the Top 10 Women-owned Businesses in San Diego by San Diego Business Journal

2007

February – Implemented Envox®-based IVR platform, adding robustness and scalability to this offering
April – Synteract ranked as #14 largest of 50 Top Employers in San Diego, based on number of locally employed staff
June – Awarded first full-service clinical trial project in collaboration with global partners
September – Signed partnership with top EDC vendor PhaseForward to provide additional EDC capabilities for drug sponsors
September – Synteract continues to stay on San Diego Business Journal’s listing of Top 100 Fastest Growing Companies in the San Diego greater metropolitan area
September – Synteract ranked as #37 Fastest Growing Private Company and as #33 Highest Revenue Generator in San Diego Book of Lists, ranked by percent of verified revenue growth over previous 3 years
October – Synteract undertook its first integrated CDISC project consisting of DEFINE.XML creation, annotated CRFs, ISS/ISE development and production of ADaM/SDTM datasets for 12 studies.
October – Opened branch office in Morrisville, North Carolina, to provide additional support for site monitoring and safety services

2008

January – Hired 200th employee
April – Synteract celebrated its best financial quarter in its history (Q1, Jan-Mar)
April – EVP Russell Holmes honored by the San Diego Business Journal as a finalist among top technology executives in San Diego
May – CEO Ellen Morgan won prestigious 2008 Athena Pinnacle award for outstanding work in the Services category
